Days 9 &10

So day 9 was an overall FAIL at all things. I ate some more brownie, didn't get to work out and was up till 1 am. Let's just say it was a bad day. It was actually pretty fun but as far as weight loss goes, yeah bad. I was on campus till 2 pm. I was doing homework from 5:30pm till I went to bed. A little bit of diversion, but not much.

And I got bad news. I have a funeral to go to this weekend. But she lived a long, full life and was suffering immensely from leukemia when she passed. I'm looking at it as God's mercy and a chance to celebrate her life. She was a Great-Grandmother of four!

Today was lots better. I was up @ 6 am, I lifted, I ran hard for 30 min, I played basketball, I biked lots getting from place to place (multiple times), went to all my classes, ate healthy, watched the hockey players work out, and played mini-golf! I also had a "small"(their sizing is skewed, they should call it an extra large) thick, chocolate ice-cream shake for dinner. It was a girls day out! And there's a bonfire tonight on the beach. Good day! Weighed in at 170!

Things are still looking good. :)

Day 8

One week down...I don't know how many more to go. But I feel "light as a feather".
I'm 2 lbs lighter than last week! 168.5 and I was hydrated this time! Ha!

It's progress.

So, today I ate about 4 of the brownies I swore I wouldn't. But they were spread out during the day and I didn't have lunch.(A weak defense, I know.)Breakfast was a banana, yogurt, and a glass of OJ. I was in a rush this morning. Dinner was a bowl of mac 'n' cheese w/ asparagus thrown in. I'm a college kid, ok?!

I just got done going for a 40 min run in the rain. I felt soooo good and motivated during the whole thing! I could feel the pleasurable pain again!(That sounds so sexual. Eh, Sigmund Freud must have been right.)The hills seemed non-existent! Because I felt so good I decided I'd better push myself on this one loop in the trail system I run on. It's downhill one way, and uphill the other. And it's NOT nice. The "Hairpin Loop". I didn't conquer it like I wanted to, but the loop didn't win this time, either. It was a tie. My problem is that I keep running this loop at the end of my longer runs. I'll conquer it soon.

I think the main reason I felt so good is that I'm finally getting my wind back. My quads killed on the uphill part of the loop, but my breathing was steady. I think this means I can start doing sprints and pushing harder in my runs. Bring it!

Day 7

I was up at 6:30 this morning to run 2ish miles. The sunrise was well on its way but still amazing! A bowl of "Marshmallow Mateys" for breakfast! Aaarrrrrrghhhh!

After biking to and from classes I had a bologna and cheese sandwich and a bunch of grapes! A glass of milk then, and later a glass of chocolate milk for a snack.

I made it to the gym late today, but still fit in my back and "AAAAABB-dominal!!!" work outs. Weighed in at 170.0 tonight. I think the weight will start coming off now that I'm back to a steady weight. I ate the last left over slice of pizza afterwords at 9 pm. Gosh.

I'm making a pan of AH-mazing brownies right now, but no worries, they are for my friend and math tutor Perry. Really! That's not to say that I didn't scrape that bowl for all it was worth and lick the spoon clean. Ahem. I wanted to get them out of the house along with the chocolate chips and some of my chocolate sauce. If they're not there, I'm not tempted. I'm off to bed as soon as they're done! Hopefully I can get up for another awesome sunrise and a 40 min run. 6 am never used to be so early, ack!

Day 6

Today was a simple day for me. I got up for church, found out it was an hour earlier than I thought, and cleaned the apartment. Sam and I went for a long bike ride, stood in the water at the beach, then made a delicious dinner! We drove out to the breakers to go for a quick swim in Lake Superior and watch the sun set. Refreshing and very beautiful! Allie and her puppy Kessler were there too!

Food wise I think I've behaved the best so far this week. I had 2 scrambled eggs and 2 toaster waffles with OJ for breakfast. I had a slice of leftover pizza, a glass of milk, some green beans, and a "100 calorie smart-pop" single serving pop-corn. Dinner was chicken helper: chicken alfredo. I added asparagus for crunchies. All this cooking "on my own" (instead of relying on the microwave) makes me feel like a chef or something. :) Lemonade was a nice touch with it. I have a couple single serving ice cream cups that are 100 calories each. We each had one tonight. If you're going to share dinner, you'd best have a dessert too. But I don't feel bad about it. I honestly think guilt adds more pounds then it takes away.

Didn't make it to the gym to weigh in today, but that's fine. I'll weigh in tomorrow after I "PUMP SOME IRON!" :D

Day 5(?)

So as I mentioned before, I was up late and had leftover pizza for breakfast/lunch. The rest of my day was much better.

I'm not positive how far I ran or even how long, but I made it through 20 songs on my Ipod. If you assume that all the songs are roughly 3:30 min in length, I ran for over an hour! I'm a little sore, but nothing serious. It may have been more of a jogging pace than a running pace. I hadn't expected to go for so long but I was feeling good. Woot! When I weighed in afterwords, I weighed 169.3 lbs! I know some of it was due to dehydration. I'm working on that too.

I ate an apple after my run/before dinner and of course lots of water. It didn't take much to fill me up at dinner.

Dinner tonight was made courtesy of my boyfriend, Austin. Spaghetti with chunky veggi sauce, garlic bread, chicken tenders, and canned peas and carrots. Since we can't buy wine, we had it all with cran-apple juice. Yum!

I also walked down to Jim's Food Mart and went grocery shopping. Lots of fresh veggies and some fruit! Only one boxed item...granola bars! I'm pretty excited to eat better and feel better. The buys I'm most excited about? Sweet corn, asparagus, and fresh string beans!

I miss eating them straight from the garden along with the leaf lettuce, and peas. Basically I miss having a garden and eating all the veggies Dad and Mom planted. Someday when I own my own place I guess.

I'm very much ready for a long bike ride tomorrow with my friend Sam!

The Plan of Attack

My plan for attacking these 10 lbs has 3 Parts.

Part 1: Diet
I don't plan on doing a hardcore diet or dieting plan like atkins or whatever, just be smart.
-No sweets. :(
-No fast food.
-A little less dairy.
-More veggies
-More fruit
-Eat a good breakfast.
-Take my "Woman's Ultra MEGA active multivitamins".
-Drink LOTS of water.
-Eat a small(calorie wise) lunch before 1pm
-Eat an apple before dinner.
-Eat just about anything for dinner, but watch portions. Before 6 pm.
-Don't eat before bed.
-If I feel hungry between meals, I will drink water. If I MUST snack, I will go for fruit or veggies or a small yogurt.
+I will try my hardest to remember that when I feel hungry, it means I'm burning fat.
* My brother helped me with this. He's also more disciplined than I am.

Part 2: Exercise
I will not go crazy with my exercising, but I must be diligent with it.

-Work back in gym with light weight, fast reps.
-15 min of "AAAABB-dominals!"
-Run 2 miles(or 20 min)/swim laps/bike 40 min.
-5 sets of maxing out push-ups.

-Run for 40 min(or 4 miles)/go for a ridiculously long bike ride
-5 sets of maxing out push-ups

-Arms and chest in gym with light weight, fast reps.
-15 min of "AAAABB-dominals!"
-Run 2 miles(or 20 min)/swim laps/bike 40 min.
-5 sets of maxing out push-ups.

-Run for 30 min with LOTS of BIG hills. Agate street(a street from hell) is only a block away. If it's not hills then it's fartlicks.
-5 sets of maxing out push ups

-Shoulders in gym with light weight, fast reps
-15 min of "AAAABB-dominals!"
-Run 2 miles(or 20 min)/bike 40 min.
-5 sets of maxing out push-ups.

-Long Slow Run

-Bike or walk everywhere.
-Playing sports with friends.

Part 3: Sleep
I need to get into a regular sleep pattern that doesn't require naps during the day.
-Go to bed @ 10 pm; wake up at 6 am.
But I am a college student, so the weekends are always screwed up. This also means I need to get better at managing my time so my homework is done before 10 pm.

Today I haven't been so good at following the food and sleep plans so far. I got out of bed @ 12:00 pm. I don't even know what time it was when I went to bed. For "brunch" I had three small slices of leftover 3 meat Di Giorno pizza. And some Cran-apple juice. But I think I'll be good as long as I keep drinking water before my date at Ming's Asain bistro. Bring on the sodium! :p

Today is the day for a long slow run. After I put a new tire on my bike. The weather is perfect for it. Not too much wind, mostly cloudy, chances of rain, and it's about 70 degrees outside. I'm charging my Ipod as I type.

I also have a new ultimate goal in all of this fitness: do 10 pull-ups with out assistance. And get over a 300 on the APFT! (Not as hard as the pull-ups but a good goal none the less.)

The hardest thing about this whole plan?
No more sweets. No more Chocolate and Ice Cream.
I now have to get my chocolate fix from chocolate milk. It'll have to do I guess.

The bet...

Hello to anyone who will actually read this;

So this is a blog about my weight loss efforts.

It all started when my Dad sent me a chat message with the fateful words: "I bet I can lose 10 lbs before you."

The conditions:
First to lose 10 lbs wins.
Must keep weight off for one month
I win: Printer on Dad's dime
Dad wins: 5 hours of manual labor cleaning the poll shed. (It's desperately needed.)

So I plan on posting every day about what I ate, how much I exercised, and what I weighed in at. Maybe keep a track of other things that may affect my weight.

Dad is in his upper 40's, 5'10", and weighed in @ 199.4 lbs. His overall goal is 170.

I am 20, 5'9", and weighed in @ 171.3 lbs. And I KNOW I'm beautiful as I am, but my goal is to be as fit as possible so I can be effective when I commission as an officer in the Army. (This is my disclaimer for those who will assume I think I'm fat.) My overall goal is 160. I'm not sure I can get any lower if I want to build upper body strength.

Today I'm 173.0 Oops!

If anyone wants to offer their help, feel free! :D

Wish me luck!
